Not new app-controlled cutlery from Apple but an “intelligent” electro-surgical scalpel that can analyse brain tissue at a molecular level. Faaaaancy.
This new brain surgery trial sounds like a real breakthrough for those with operable brain tumours.
I found it interesting that the BBC news story on the telly last night focussed on the fact that the surgeon ‘woke’ the patient mid-way through surgery, so that he could speak and therefore identify the parts of the brain not be be removed.
Pfffff, B was doing that back in 2012! 😉
It’s heartening to see that there ARE some advances being made in brain tumour research even though the area is hugely under-funded. Sometimes I fear that nothing is happening. This new technique could be advantageous for B if & when the tumour returns. I’m putting it on my list of “annoying questions to ask The German in January 2016”.
